Cragside Engineered Oak Herringbone: Where It Works Best
Cragside is a mixed grade engineered oak herringbone floor, brushed and oiled in a soft Pinot Gris tone. A mixed grade blends cleaner blocks with more characterful ones, so you get natural variation across the floor without it feeling too busy. It is a versatile choice that sits comfortably in both modern and traditional homes.
The finish
The surface is brushed to lift the grain texture, then oiled in a soft Pinot Gris tone. Oil soaks into the timber for a natural, matt look and feel, and worn areas can be refreshed locally rather than refinishing the whole floor.
Block size and construction
At 70 x 350mm, these blocks are a classic parquet size. They give a well-proportioned herringbone that sits naturally in almost any room, from living rooms and dining rooms to bedrooms and hallways.
Each block has a 4mm real oak wear layer bonded to a stable multi-layer base, 15mm thick overall. The engineered construction is less prone to movement than solid wood, and the 4mm oak top layer means the floor can be sanded and refinished in future.
Fitting your herringbone floor
Herringbone is laid with separate left and right blocks to create the zigzag pattern, and is normally fixed to a flat, dry, prepared subfloor. For the best result we recommend an experienced floor fitter. Not sure whether herringbone is right for your room? Caring for Cragside
Sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp (not wet) mop and an oil-friendly wood floor cleaner. Wipe up spills promptly, use felt pads under furniture, and apply a maintenance oil from time to time to keep the surface protected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see a sample first?
Yes. We always recommend seeing the floor in your own light before ordering. You can order a flooring sample of Cragside online, or contact us for advice.
How much flooring should I order?
Measure the area in square metres and allow extra for cutting. Herringbone usually needs a larger allowance than a straight-laid floor (often around 10 to 15%), because of the angled cuts at the edges. Our team can help you work out the right quantity.
Can Cragside be used with underfloor heating?
Suitability for underfloor heating depends on the system and how the floor is installed. Get in touch and we will confirm the right approach for Cragside in your home.
