Description
Allendale Engineered Oak Herringbone: Where It Works Best
Allendale is a rustic grade engineered oak herringbone floor, unfinished. Rustic grade embraces the natural character of oak, with knots, colour variation and grain movement from block to block. It brings warmth and a lived-in feel that works beautifully in period properties, cottages and farmhouse-style kitchens.
The finish
Supplied unfinished, this floor is sanded and finished on site after laying. That means you can choose exactly the look you want, from a natural matt oil to a tinted finish or a hard-wearing lacquer, and the whole floor is sealed as one seamless surface.
Block size and construction
At 70 x 350mm, these blocks are a classic parquet size. They give a well-proportioned herringbone that sits naturally in almost any room, from living rooms and dining rooms to bedrooms and hallways.
Each block has a 4mm real oak wear layer bonded to a stable multi-layer base, 11mm thick overall. The engineered construction is less prone to movement than solid wood, and the 4mm oak top layer means the floor can be sanded and refinished in future.
Fitting your herringbone floor
Herringbone is laid with separate left and right blocks to create the zigzag pattern, and is normally fixed to a flat, dry, prepared subfloor. For the best result we recommend an experienced floor fitter. Not sure whether herringbone is right for your room? Caring for Allendale
Care depends on the finish you choose once it is laid. Regular sweeping or vacuuming and an occasional damp mop with a suitable wood floor cleaner will keep it looking its best. Our team can advise on the right products for your chosen finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see a sample first?
Yes. We always recommend seeing the floor in your own light before ordering. You can order a flooring sample of Allendale online, or contact us for advice.
How much flooring should I order?
Measure the area in square metres and allow extra for cutting. Herringbone usually needs a larger allowance than a straight-laid floor (often around 10 to 15%), because of the angled cuts at the edges. Our team can help you work out the right quantity.
Can Allendale be used with underfloor heating?
Suitability for underfloor heating depends on the system and how the floor is installed. Get in touch and we will confirm the right approach for Allendale in your home.
