Description
Elsdon Engineered Oak Herringbone: Where It Works Best
Elsdon is a knotty grade engineered oak herringbone floor, brushed and matt lacquered. Knotty grade oak is all about bold character, with larger and more frequent knots giving the floor real presence. It is ideal if you want a herringbone floor that feels relaxed, natural and full of personality.
The finish
The surface is brushed to bring out the texture of the grain, then sealed with a low-sheen matt lacquer. You get the tactile, natural look of brushed oak with the easy-care protection of a lacquered floor, and it is ready to live on as soon as it is laid.
Block size and construction
At 70 x 490mm, these long, slender blocks create an elongated herringbone with a refined, modern feel. The longer zigzag draws the eye along the room and works especially well in hallways and open-plan living spaces.
Each block has a 4mm real oak wear layer bonded to a stable multi-layer base, 11mm thick overall. The engineered construction is less prone to movement than solid wood, and the 4mm oak top layer means the floor can be sanded and refinished in future.
Fitting your herringbone floor
Herringbone is laid with separate left and right blocks to create the zigzag pattern, and is normally fixed to a flat, dry, prepared subfloor. For the best result we recommend an experienced floor fitter. Not sure whether herringbone is right for your room? Caring for Elsdon
Sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp (not wet) mop and a lacquer-friendly wood floor cleaner. Use felt pads under furniture and mats at entrances to help protect the finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see a sample first?
Yes. We always recommend seeing the floor in your own light before ordering. You can order a flooring sample of Elsdon online, or contact us for advice.
How much flooring should I order?
Measure the area in square metres and allow extra for cutting. Herringbone usually needs a larger allowance than a straight-laid floor (often around 10 to 15%), because of the angled cuts at the edges. Our team can help you work out the right quantity.
Can Elsdon be used with underfloor heating?
Suitability for underfloor heating depends on the system and how the floor is installed. Get in touch and we will confirm the right approach for Elsdon in your home.
